Equipment Troubleshooting: Orange Peel |

Cause
- Air pressure too high
- Coating material not thinned out sufficiently/
Incorrect viscosity (insufficient solvent)
- Not depositing a wet coat
- Application technique: Gun stroked to rapidly (dusting
the paint)
- Insufficient air pressure, air pressure too low
- Wrong air cap or fluid tip
- Stroking too far from surface
- Overspray striking a previously sprayed surface
- Incorrect gun set-up (poor atomization)
- Insufficient flow of primer system
- Temperature too high
- Incorrect selection of solvent
Prevention
- Adjust air pressure
- Add the correct amount of solvent by measure or
determine by viscosity test (if applicable)
- Check solvent use, correct speed and overlap of stroke
- Avoid whipping. Take deliberate, slow strokes.
- Increase air pressure or reduce fluid pressure, see
technical data sheet
- Maintain 15-25 cm (conventional) or 35 –45 cm
(airless) distance to surface
- Spray detail parts first
Remedies
- Slight orange peel effect can be removed by polishing.
If more serious, the surface must be sanded and
re-sprayed. |
